Programs Overview

Teen & Adult Focus
In the course of your study here at the Phoenix Academy, you will be instructed in the principles of training that are required as a traditional martial artist. These basic principles are to be applied as you grow and mature in the martial art of Hwa Rang Do®. Your instructors at the Phoenix Academy are here to help you understand these principles. In time you will be able to apply these maxims in your continued study of the traditional martial arts.

SINCERITY IN PRACTICE:
“If one does not practice regularly, then one cannot face the opponent.”

In your study of Hwa Rang Do®, you are required to practice perfecting the various techniques so that they become an ingrained habit. This requires you to have a mental attitude of thoroughness. Exercise, whether it be mental or physical, must be repeated correctly. It would be a waste of time if you practiced all that you have learned in an incorrect manner. The time you spend inside the academy is precious because of the limited time you have with your instructors. The perfection of your techniques requires that they become “second nature” and reflexive. If you have to think of your response, it is already too late. Think of your self as a rough stone when you enter the academy. After a while, you start to become smooth and polished. You are like a diamond in the rough. If not polished, no one will see its inner beauty. The training in the martial arts is much the same. This is why you must have SINCERITY IN PRACTICE.

Look for more principles of training to be posted soon.

Children’s Class Focus
Here at the Phoenix Academy, you will be instructed in various types of self-defense techniques that will require you to have a sense of respect for the things your instructors are showing you. You must have a proper attitude towards your fellow students and instructors, not only while you are here at the Phoenix Academy, but also when you are outside the training hall. I know that the “culture” of a Korean Martial Art is quite different from your daily life at home or school, but with common sense and the help of your instructors, you will begin to understand and appreciate your newfound respect for the Martial Art of Tae Soo Do®/Hwa Rang Do® and the Phoenix Academy.

Here are the Phoenix Academy’s “home rules & academy rules” for children.
